Origin of Establishment

    In April, 1990, the University was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to conduct a special study on the planning of schools’ physical education curriculum system. In March 1991, the first phase of the research report was submitted, suggesting an establishment of a center to assist the Ministry of Education in the long-term planning of the school physical education curriculum and the promotion of related school sports affairs. The proposal was approved by the Ministry of Education on August 1, 1992, “School Physical Education Research and Development Center” was established to actively assist the educational community in implementing the effectiveness of physical education. On August 1, 1998, the name was changed to “Physical Education Research and Development Center” due to the expansion of its work.
       Since its establishment, the Center has been commissioned or subsidized by the Ministry of Education to complete the establishment of basic school sports data, establish a comprehensive sports visitation system and indicators to understand the effectiveness of school sports implementation, strengthen the in-service training of physical education teachers through seminars and activities, and emphasize the sports rights of disadvantaged students.
At present, the Center is entrusted by the Ministry of Education to continue to handle various policies and programs to promote school sports. In order to meet the needs of the times, the Center's services cover not only school sports, but also research and development of competitive sports, sports for all, and sports and leisure industries, hoping to contribute to the development of sports and leisure in Taiwan through the efforts of the Center's related teams.
